Rock It – 2006-07-16
Cannonball – Breeders
· LP: Last Splash
· Released in 1993 by 4AD
· Band members: The famous Deal sisters – Kim Deal and Kelley Deal, Jim Mac Pherson &
Josephine Wiggs
· Kim Deal was from Pixies. Kelley Deal formed The Amps. The sisters could be involved in
many other bands as side projects. Please do some research to find out more
School – Nirvana
· LP: Bleach
· Released in 1989
· This song was recorded before Dave Grohl of Foo Fighter joined the band
· Band members at that time were Kurt Cobain (vocal & guitar) who later married Courtney
Love of Hole and later shot & killed himself, Chris Novoselic (bass) who later formed
Queens of The Stone Age, Chad Channing (drums) and Jason Everman (guitar)
Radio Free Europe – R.E.M.
· LP: Singles Collected
· Released in 1994
White Tornado – R.E.M.
· LP: Singles Collected
· Released in 1994
· This is a unique instrumental track of R.E.M. It is of one of their earliest songs. Sounds
more like surf-rock of Dick Dale & Man… or Astroman rather than the typical sound of
R.E.M.
Can’t Have It – Teen Angels
· LP: Daddy
· Released in 1996 by Sub-pop
· If you pronounce the name of the band fast, it sounds like “Teenagers”
The World Has Turned And Left Me Here – Weezer
· LP: Self-titled album which is also known as the Blue album
· Weezer has 2 self-titled albums, the other is known as Green album based on the colour of
the album cover
Do You Like Me – Fugazi
· LP: Red Medicine
· Released in 1995 by their own label, Dischord Records
· This is a great Washington based positive punk band greatly admired by the independent
music scene. It is an anti-violence punk band.
· The band was playing in Malaysia about 10 years ago at Fire Discotheque. Those who
were there would never forget about the gig and the band. The gig started late as usual
liked any local independent gig. At one point, the crowd was pushing towards the stage.
The security/bouncers were a bit rowdy. The lead singer prevented the potential violence
imposed by the security/bouncers towards the audiences and the show went on smoothly.
Monkey Needs – Shotgun Messiah
· LP: Violent New Breed
· Released in 1993
· An industrial band
No Reward – Black Train Jack
· LP: No Reward
· Released in 1993 by Roadrunner
It’s Coming Down – Cake
· LP : Fashion Nugget
· Released in 1995
· This is one of the weirdest bands I have ever encountered. They sound like a cheap
smoked filled club band.
· Band members: Greg Brown (electric guitar & organ), Victor Damiani (bass), Vincent Di
Fiore (trumpet & percussion), John Mc Crea (vocal, acoustic guitar & organ) & Todd Roper
(drums & percussion)
Coming of the Century – Course of Empire
· LP: Self-titled
· Released in 1990
Grinned – Pond
· LP: Self-titled
· Released in 1993 by Sub-pop
Not The Same – Dinosaur Jr.
· LP: Where You Been
· Released in 1993
7/8 – Drop Nineteens
· LP National Coma
· Released in 1993
The Emperor In The Sky – Wolf Colonel
· LP: Vikings of Mint
Dog Lady – Icky Joey
· LP: Pooh
Farting In A Car Full of People Isn’t Rude, It’s Screwed Up – The Fridays
· EP: My Blur Baby
· This song was written out of frustration and the band is not serious about this song
Mr. Biggles – The Fridays
· EP: My Blur Baby
Wondermilk – The Fridays
· EP: My Blur Baby
· This song was written with the influence of Couple. However, it sounds more similar to the
style of Lucy In The Loo. I imagined Hana singing this song while listening.
Mocha – The Fridays
· EP: My Blur Baby
· Personally, I think this is the best track. The lyric sounds like it contains some vulgar
words but in reality there’s no vulgar word. Blame it on the raw unpolished recording
Dance Floor – The Fridays
· EP: My Blur Baby
· Personally, this is the song I dislike. It has the influence of Al Stewart – Ashraff (the lead
singer) was probably digging his mom’s record collection for inspiration while writing this
song. It’s not really bad after listening to it several times but it is just a song that could not
instantly fit into my taste of music.
My Blur Baby – The Fridays
· EP: My Blur Baby
· This is another great track.
